Egenolf Early Childhood Center

Dr. Lorraine Cooke

Executive Director

Job Description/What do I do?

“As executive director, my first priority is to support the staff so they have the tools to continue to deliver our superbly high quality preschool program. This includes managing a very limited budget in an effort to prioritize the needs of children and families. I am an advocate so I study, research and maintain relationships with those state and federal legislators who understand the importance of early education. I advocate on behalf of children, families, and staff.

“As the leader of a nationally accredited program for early education, I am required to ensure that our program continues to meet the 400 indicators of program quality. I file an annual report and we are visited by an assessor to ensure that we continue to meet the standards of high quality. In addition, I am required to ensure that all child care licensing regulations are met. Above all, my job demands that every child and every family has the best preschool experience while in our program.”

When did I start at Egenolf?

June 21, 1993

What makes Egenolf so special?

“Egenolf ECC was early childhood education before early childhood education was cool. As one of the first programs to open in New Jersey, we have served generations of families. It is not unusual for me to be flagged down in the street by a former family member who tells me their child is an attorney, doctor, law enforcement officer, teacher, and so on. They attribute their child’ success to the Egenolf ECC experience. That is very, very special!

Something people probably don’t know about me.

“I love to travel. I have been to five continents, to every country in Europe, and have sailed on many oceans!”
